To confirm that an AI answer cites a published article, inspect the cited URL in the actual answer record. A brand mention, a link to the homepage or a citation to another page does not establish that the article was cited.

How Link Strategy connects the evidence

After the team records a campaign's published URLs, Xtrusio matches URLs returned by scans against those Link Strategy records. This connects an observed citation to the relevant publication effort and buyer question.

Open the answer behind a match. The page may be cited without the answer adopting the intended positioning. A match alone does not prove which text the model used, that a placement caused a perception shift or that the campaign produced a business outcome.

Check one placement

1. Start with the verified live article URL.
2. Identify the question and engine being checked.
3. Open the later saved answer.
4. Inspect its source URLs.
5. Confirm the destination of any matching link.
6. Record the observation and its collection context.

Exact-page matching normalizes scheme, www, fragments, trailing slashes and known tracking parameters, and unwraps supported embedded destination URLs. Recognized language-path variants can match. It distinguishes an exact article match from another page on the same domain, no match and an unscanned engine.

The matcher does not follow every redirect or inspect canonical tags. Separate liveness checks follow redirects, and some older badges are domain-level. Preserve the cited URL and check its destination rather than treating every badge as exact-article proof.

Example

An illustrative answer links to the company's homepage while the team is evaluating a guest article on another domain. The company may have a citation, but that does not prove the guest article was retrieved.

Likewise, an article's title appearing in plain text is not necessarily a clickable citation.

If no matching citation appears

Record “not observed in this check.” Do not translate that into “AI can never read the page.” A later result may differ, and a scan has a defined question and engine scope.

What a successful record establishes

It shows that the specific answer cited the specific page in that observation. It does not establish that every user sees the same answer or that the placement caused a sale.

Retain the answer-level proof alongside the publication record.
