Choose Relevant Publishers by Topic, Audience and Website Metrics
During Foundation setup, the team recommends portals using the client's industry, segment and each portal's AI citability parameter. The client approves the publisher-selection criteria during Foundation setup. The team loads and adds suitable publishers within those criteria and the subscription scope; separate client approval is not required for every publisher. Publisher discovery and catalogue updates continue after setup. Use these inputs alongside topic relevance and editorial review; an AI citability parameter does not guarantee a future citation.
Availability and responsibility
During Foundation setup, the team recommends portals using the client's industry, segment and each portal's AI citability parameter. The client approves the publisher-selection criteria during Foundation setup. The team loads and adds suitable publishers within those criteria and the subscription scope; separate client approval is not required for every publisher. Choose a publisher for the readers and subject it serves, then use website metrics as supporting checks. A high domain score does not establish editorial relevance, a useful audience or likely AI citation.
Inspect relevance before metrics
Read recent articles in the relevant section. Check whether the publication serves the intended market and whether the proposed article would add information its readers need.
DA and DR are provider-specific scores. They are not Google's approval of a site or a guarantee that a link improves rankings.
Understand AI citability
Xtrusio rates a portal's AI citability as High, Medium or Low using an AI assessment of its authority and relevance to the client's industry. The rating estimates citation potential; it is not a measure of how often AI platforms already cite the portal.
One assessment method tests existing content: Xtrusio selects four or five indexed articles about a month old from the portal, generates questions from those articles and asks them across different AI platforms. It checks whether the answers cite the sampled articles. This assessment runs in the backend. When the team finds good citability, it lists the site; clients are not expected to review the underlying test questions and answers. Observed citations provide practical evidence that those articles can be cited for the tested questions. They do not guarantee that a new placement will be cited, or establish a platform-wide citation frequency.
Build a shortlist
- Select the client's topic, geography and audience requirements.
- Apply relevant catalogue filters.
- Open candidate sites and inspect their current content.
- Review metric sources and freshness.
- Check editorial quality, disclosure practices and placement conditions.
- Record why each shortlisted site fits and why alternatives were rejected.
Example
For a technical buying guide, a smaller publication read by the right operators may be more suitable than a broad high-score site publishing unrelated topics. The choice should be justified by audience and editorial fit, not this example alone.
When metrics conflict
Compare the provider, measurement period and definition. Do not average unlike scores or treat an unavailable value as zero.
Before approving spend, keep a short selection note that links the publisher's actual content to the question the article answers.
After publication
Use citations observed in subsequent scans to assess actual publisher and URL performance separately from the initial High, Medium or Low citation-potential rating. A placement status and a publisher's catalogue score are different records.
