Claude Startups Program 2026: Eligibility, Credits and How to Apply

Anthropic expanded Claude Startups on October 6, 2026. Approved startups can claim $1,000 in first-party Claude API credits and, if new to Claude Team, a free year for up to five Premium seats. Members can also access partner offers advertised at up to $45,000 in combined value, office hours and events. A startup founded in the past five years or funded in the past two can apply through Claude Console. A partner VC can unlock additional API credits, but is not required to join.

If you are pricing the offer, separate money you can spend on Claude from discounts on other companies' tools. Anthropic's $1,000 API credit is one benefit. The free Team year is another, for eligible companies new to Team. The $45,000 figure is the maximum combined value of partner offers, not an Anthropic cash or API grant. Anthropic announced the expansion on October 6, 2026, and its current program page gives founders the application rules and timing.

What changed in Claude Startups?

Anthropic says it launched the program earlier in 2026 and is now opening it to more founders. The October expansion adds a free year of Claude Team for up to five Premium seats, a one-time $1,000 Claude API credit, the Claude Startup Stack of outside software offers, and virtual office hours with its Applied AI team. Members can also join startup events and receive help preparing a Claude Marketplace listing for review. The announcement describes those additions; CNBC covered the expansion on the same day.

Anthropic values the Team year plus the API credit at up to $7,000. That calculation assumes five Premium seats at $100 per seat per month, billed annually, making $6,000 in Team value plus $1,000 in API credit. A company with fewer seats gets less Team value. The separate up to $45,000 Startup Stack figure adds maximum partner list-price offers as of September 2026. Anthropic says a company may not be able to claim or combine every offer. Those are two different figures, with different conditions. See the announcement's calculation and footnotes.

What does an approved startup actually get?

Benefit

Amount or access

What to check before you count it

Claude API

$1,000 one-time credit

Claim it in Claude Console. It expires six months after grant and applies to the first-party Claude API, not Claude through AWS Bedrock or Google Vertex AI.

Claude Team

One year free, up to five Premium seats

The company must be new to Team. The value depends on how many seats it uses.

API rate limits

Higher limits for members receiving program credits

Anthropic lists the upgrade but no single numeric allowance for every account. Check the assigned limit in Console.

Claude Startup Stack

Offers advertised at up to $45,000 combined value

Each outside provider sets its own conditions. Treat this as possible discounts and credits, not money in a Claude account.

Applied AI office hours

45-minute sessions every other week

Accepted members receive registration details. This is guidance, not an assigned engineer for the company.

Founder House, hackathons, meetups and product news

Event access can depend on availability; Marketplace listings go through review.

The amounts, expiry, rate-limit treatment and meeting frequency come from Anthropic's program FAQ. Its additional benefits terms say the partner offers come from independent providers and can change. If a founder only needs Claude model usage, the $1,000 API credit is the relevant number. The larger partner figure matters only when the company already needs those specific outside tools.

Who qualifies, and is VC backing required?

Anthropic's October 6 program FAQ says a startup can apply if it was founded in the past five years or received funding in the past two years. The page says applicants need a Claude Console account, a company email matching the website domain, and a short description of what they are building. Anthropic reviews every application and applies its supportability policies. VC funding is not required: the program welcomes bootstrapped, pre-seed and venture-backed startups.

Claude Startups mobile FAQ with the five-year or two-year eligibility rule and application details

The expanded eligibility FAQ on Anthropic's page, captured October 6, 2026, shows the five-year or two-year route and the account details to prepare.

A VC in Anthropic's partner network is a separate advantage. The program FAQ says a backed company can receive up to $100,000 in additional API credits through that VC. It does not say every applicant receives that amount, and the public page does not name every partner VC or accelerator. Ask your investor whether it participates and what application link or credit terms it provides. Do not confuse the VC pathway with the $1,000 credit that the public page says every approved company can claim. Check Anthropic's VC and credit FAQ.

Anthropic's official program terms add that selections are rolling and that it considers factors such as business traction, funding and Claude usage. The terms also set legal and location restrictions. Check them before preparing an application, especially if the company operates across countries. The public eligibility summary is useful, but Anthropic makes the final decision.

How do you apply, step by step?

  1. Open the Claude Startups page and read the current eligibility and benefits FAQ.
  2. Prepare a Claude Console account, a company email that matches your website domain, and a short description of the product and how it uses Claude.
  3. Select Apply now. The public link opens the Claude Console startup application entry. From a logged-out browser on October 6, it led to a sign-in screen.
  4. Sign in with your own company account and complete the application shown in Console. If your VC is an Anthropic partner, ask it how to request any additional credit separately.
  5. Watch the company email used in the application for Anthropic's decision. If accepted, use the Claude Startups page in Console to claim the API credit and Team offer, then review each partner offer before redeeming it.

Claude Startups application sign-in screen reached before any account access

The application link reached this Claude Console sign-in screen in a logged-out browser on October 6, 2026. The fields after sign-in were not publicly visible, and no form was submitted.

Anthropic says most applications are decided within minutes. Those sent for manual review usually take two to three business days, with the decision sent by email. This is the published typical timing, not a deadline for every applicant; the program terms describe rolling selection and the current page lists no closing date. The program FAQ also says the $1,000 API credit expires six months after it is granted. Put that date next to your planned model tests so unused credit does not disappear.

How does it compare with OpenAI and Google startup programs?

The headline amounts are not directly comparable. Claude Startups grants first-party Claude API credit and a conditional Team subscription. OpenAI for Startups offers founder resources broadly, while its listed API-credit, rate-limit and technical-team benefits run through participating VC partners. OpenAI's public page does not give one universal dollar credit for every founder. It tells startups to ask their VC for a referral code and benefit details.

Google for Startups Cloud Program advertises $2,000 in Google Cloud credits for a pre-funded MVP path and up to $350,000 in Cloud credits for qualifying AI-first startups at Seed to Series A. Google's FAQ explains that eligibility, billing account and credit use vary by tier. Cloud credits cover eligible Google Cloud services, not a blank check for every third-party model. A founder should compare the model or cloud bill each program can actually offset, the expiry period, and the engineering support it makes available.

Program

Public credit path

Founder should verify

Claude Startups

$1,000 Claude API credit for approved members; up to $100,000 more through an Anthropic partner VC

First-party API use, six-month expiry, Team eligibility and VC conditions

OpenAI for Startups

API credits may be available through a partner VC; no universal public dollar amount

Whether the investor participates, referral code and credit terms

Google for Startups Cloud Program

$2,000 pre-funded path; up to $350,000 for qualifying AI-first startups

Cloud tier, eligible services and billing account

If your product can use more than one provider, apply based on the actual workload you expect to run. A large maximum credit is less useful than a smaller credit on the API you will call next month. Keep a simple record of expected model or cloud usage, which program pays for it, and when the benefit ends.

Building with Claude is one decision; being found by buyers in Claude, ChatGPT or Google AI answers is another. After launch, software like Xtrusio can save each buyer question, answer and cited page for a question-by-question AI visibility check. That marketing check is separate from the Claude Startups benefits.

What should a founder do next?

Start with the public Claude eligibility check, then estimate your next six months of first-party Claude API use. If the $1,000 credit would fund real product tests, prepare the Console account and company details now. Only assign value to a partner discount if it replaces software you would otherwise buy. If a VC backs you, ask whether it has Anthropic partner access before assuming an additional credit amount. Apply from the official Claude Startups page, and keep the decision email and claimed-benefit dates together.

Frequently asked questions

Who is eligible for the expanded Claude Startups program?

Anthropic says a startup founded within the past five years or funded within the past two can apply. Prepare a Claude Console account, an email matching the company's website domain and a short product description. Anthropic reviews each application under its program terms.

Do bootstrapped founders qualify?

Yes. Anthropic says bootstrapped, pre-seed and venture-backed startups can apply. A VC in Anthropic's partner network can provide a separate path to additional API credits, but VC backing is not required for the public program.

Is the $45,000 offer all Claude API credit?

No. Approved companies get a $1,000 Claude API credit. The up to $45,000 figure is the maximum combined value of offers from outside software partners, each with its own conditions. Anthropic separately values a full five-seat Team year plus the API credit at up to $7,000.

When do Claude startup API credits expire?

Anthropic says the $1,000 API credit expires six months after it is granted. It applies to the first-party Claude API through Console, not to Claude accessed through AWS Bedrock or Google Vertex AI.

How long does the Claude Startups application take to review?

Anthropic says most decisions arrive within minutes. Applications sent for manual review usually take two to three business days. The company emails its decision, and its terms describe rolling selection.

Can an existing Claude Team customer claim the free year?

Anthropic says the free year of up to five Premium seats is for organizations new to Claude Team. Existing Team customers should check which other program benefits are available to their account.

Can I see every application form step without signing in?

No. The public Apply now link opens a Claude Console sign-in screen before the application fields. Use your own Console account to see and complete the remaining steps; the public page lists the account, company email and short description to prepare.
